1) Brooklyn Army Terminal
Front,
or shore side of the Brooklyn Army Terminal. Could you imagine the Army allowing
such a garrish sign to be displayed back in the "good ol' days? Absolutely
defamating! Ugh! I guess this was Building "A". The other building (
see below ) was Building "B".
I
think the "Deceiving, and Screwing ( Receiving, and Crewing ) branch was in
Building "B"...it's been so long.
Entrance to the
Brooklyn Army Terminal at the foot of 58th Street. Otherwise known as the New
York Port of Embarkation, many entered these gates never to return home again.
A wide view of
Building "A" from the new "uncovered" Pier 4. Note the dark
relec to the right, probably Pier 3. The Transports used these piers to load
troops, and cargo for transport to theatres of war around the world. It's all no
more, being used for public pleasure now.
Panning to the left
of Bldg "A", we see the familiar Powerhouse.
A view like this
was impossible years ago, as the pier at that time was a covered pier. One would
have to have been on the upper decks of a transport to catch some of this
view.
